the handiwork of mine

“It was wonderful to catch up

with you, my friend”

Donning rose colored glasses

sipping my strawberry lemonade

Feelings of care floating with

Midafternoon sun

which clutch peach tinted pearly windows

Eyes sparkling like wind chimes

Waving goodbye for now through sips of a latte I affirm, in scriptural enthusiasm that You are you, I am me last
names don’t require hyphens

The sticky note on my amygdala

Written with gel pen

Needs to return to its owner

Walking away from me

Inhale, exhale, inhale

you walk away

I flip through the chapters of the day

I can read the lines in your pauses and how
You narrate your love life

only one wall of red string away from

naming me as your person of interest

Just for that purpose

You speak directly to me, but I’m pretending like

I’m enamored by the girl across from the table

The near enemy of attraction is caffeine

and while your eyes are vibrant

the only view I want to see in the morning

is the sun when it’s just about to rise

So, I have no choice but to look away

I have too much on my mind, I apologize,

yearning for hypothetically holding your hand

will distract me from seeing

the handiwork of mine

I hear birds chirping on the patio,

all fluorescent in the humblest of ways

it doesn’t take Intertwined instruments to make a symphony

Re-reading your messages,

pay for my drink,

glance at the clean-shaven barista a little bit longer than i should

Chuckle to myself as the tune lingers in my mind

As I soak in the shadow of you
