Fairy Tale Elizabeth Hopkinson

I wrote this song before I identified as ace, when I was still struggling with being married, sex-repulsed, a lover of High Romance, and someone who has been in unrequited love for most of my life. I have always felt unrequited love to be the most romantic, and the thought of sex as the thing most likely to kill romance. I express this through the language of fairy tales. I published the lyrics in the introduction to my book Asexual Myths & Tales (2020). It references several of the stories retold in my Asexual Fairy Tales book series and podcast, including “The Glass Coffin”, “Cupid & Psyche” and “Pygmalion & Galatea”.
