unmend

unmend

the roots they plant / we cannot root out // It is like a seed / they say, / beautiful and full of life / and /ever / so / natural // We try to mend / left and right and all over but / nothing remains but our will / and the language of flowers. unmend is the first of one of four works in Seeds Not Sorted, an art series on amatonormativity. It draws inspiration from Dorothea Tanning’s The Language of Flowers and mainly explores the irreversibility of the effects of amatonormativity on us as individuals. This artwork features a seed pod-like motif I refer to as the “natural heart”, an original concept I designed to embody and symbolize the idea of innate, pre-social will in my artworks.

Who decides what we are known by? // I am alive just like you. / I alone have the right to choose my identity. my name they give, a set of nine prints, is the third of four works in Seeds Not Sorted, an art series on amatonormativity. It vaguely focuses on the labels society places on non-amatonormative conforming folks, but I like to leave its exact meaning up to audience interpretation. This artwork features a seed pod-like motif I refer to as the “natural heart”, an original concept I designed to embody and symbolize the idea of innate, pre-social will in my artworks.

Do you have proof? / they tell me / too young / too weak / too early // I may speak all the reason in the world / and they may choose / to turn three blind ears // To plant / and take root / To pollute /and convert / why do you cradle me? unreason is the fourth of four works in Seeds Not Sorted, an art series on amatonormativity. It expresses how society turns a blind eye to and/or dismisses the existence of amatonormativity and features several passages from Elizabeth Brake’s Minimizing Marriage. This artwork features a seed pod-like motif I refer to as the “natural heart”, an original concept I designed to embody and symbolize the idea of innate, pre-social will in my artworks.
