Theory and practice
Back than
In sex education
Teenager me learned about sex parts, condoms and pregnancies
In theory
In practice I didn’t care.
Onward a bit
When adult me was in a relationship
I researched sex, sex toys and sex positions
Until, in theory, I had assembled a ‘how to’, an ‘enjoyable sex guide’
Yet, in practice, whatever sex thing I tried
It mysteriously failed, I cried.
A few years forward on the clock
Now relationship-less me stumbled upon an asexuality tiktok
Dove down an asexuality research rabbit hole in shock
And theory and practice finally aligned
In words that spoke to my heart, my mind,
My very being
It was profoundly freeing
To be seen and to be known
To gaze into a mirror of knowledge, the reflection at last my own.
